Decorate Magazine Style

Mix the Cultures and Eras

Occassionally the architecture of a home will reflect ideals of order and harmony, while the decor can be an experiment in creative culture clashes.  The luxurious Houston home featured in a recent Veranda Magazine is a perfect example. In the magazine’s photos, Native American rugs drape a French leather sofa near a Roman-style stone capital, an Italian angel sconce and a Peruvian chest. “Guidelines don’t allways apply. Who’s to say an Indonesian figure doesn’t go with a Moroccan glazed piece?”  says Andrea Palladio.

See more of this kind of design inspiration and be sure to tab through the photos of the Houston home. I really liked photo 4  “the red room” with a Peruvian antique chest, carved elephants, Chinese ceramics, East Indian silver and ivory candlesticks.

You’ll find many items in our showroom that are very similar to what the designers have used to decorate this home! Click here: Veranda Magazine

Now you can go preview a sample of this kind of accent furniture we have in our store including French and Oriental Cultural Accent Furniture

Vintage Furniture

Vintage furniture finds in California aren’t limited to Los Angeles or San Francisco. Bakersfield vintage furniture discoveries at Timeless Furnishings are an every day occurrence.

But these vintage beauties don’t offer themselves up easily. We sometimes have look look past years of dust and neglect to find them.

It’s not about everything being absolutely perfect. It’s about the vintage furniture providing a certain feeling for your family, so they’ll want to come in and relax.

It’s fun to see what interesting pieces you can mix.

Try an acrylic and glass coffee table with a velvet covered vintage sofa and gilt trimmed side tables with an antique art glass vase. Hang a 1960’s vintage crystal chandelier; add a pair of ’50s vintage French chairs and a piece of  bold contemporary art over your sofa.

When you mix these older furnishings in a context with contemporary art, they become fresh. You’ll achieve a little bit of elegance without everything looking dark and heavy.

As you begin your search, you’ll start to sort the good stuff from afar before you even get really close.

Hunting for treasures is fun with friends who share your interest. Much of what you see you’ll also feel, both in your heart and quite literally. You’ll probably end up fingering furniture carvings, silver candlesticks, and cut glass bowls.

Our vintage furniture will range from European antiques that create an old world elegance or shabby chic feel to the beautiful furnishings and art from other cultures such as the Middle East and the Orient.

Go ahead and scout for decorative and architectural accents like French antique leaded and stained glass windows or a Gothic arch motif fireplace mantle.

Look for old European chandeliers, lanterns, sconces, doors, rugs and anything else that will add an aged feel and charm.

Maybe you’ll even come across a large anonymous ancestral portrait in oil with an ornate but cracked frame that you’d like to hang. And don’t forget the floor. A vintage kilim rug can add that extra softness.

Now look for something fresh and different to mix in. A sleek red laquer desk from Tibet can team up with a folk art Chinese wooden chair. On the bookshelf to the side, a Buddha bust and Balinese stacked boxes can add to the Asian influence.

You’ll create a statement of all your own.

What ever you’ve got in mind, we’re likely to have it in our Bakersfield vintage furniture store now or very soon.
